About

I am a musician and songwriter who likes to think about the human condition and reflect the width and depth of it in my songs, but sometimes songs are not enough. Hence this blog. You can hear some of my music at http://www.soundcloud.com/dave-crow-barr

  1. We have at least two things in common then. Although I haven’t been any performing or songwriting for many years now.

Think I’ll head over to soundcloud and see what you’ve got there.

    • I’m just listening to your ‘Socially Acceptable Behaviour’ song now. I like it. Nice to meet like-minded souls.

      From energy we arise,
      Reborn into each new sunrise,
Given form by the force of life,
      In the Universe of mind.

      • You’ve got quite a collection up on soundcloud and it’s a challenge for me. My musical tastes have never been very eclectic so I don’t listen much outside my specific interests. This is one of my many great shortcomings.

To give you some idea of my musical inclinations, I consider YES to be the greatest musical ensemble of the 20th century and their album RELAYER the greatest musical composition.

Having started my first band in high school during the “British Invasion”, it was part of my job to learn the bass lines and lead vocals from lots of Beatles, Stones, Animals, Kinks, etc, etc. I was the bassist and lead singer.

Consequently I spent a lot of time using headphones and really listening. That’s what I’ll have to do with your compositions. I can tell you now, from the quick listens I’ve done, that what grabs me first is your skill with acoustic guitar. But I’ll have to get a lot deeper into what you’ve got there and, since there’s quite a lot, it will take some time.

I went through a succession of at least half a dozen bands from high school through my early thirties and then just kicked the habit cold turkey. I went through a variety of cover bands but ended up with the last few playing originals exclusively. It was really hard to get gigs for all-original bands working from a backwater like Danbury Connecticut. One of them did however manage to appear on a bill with Chuck Berry and did several appearances with the MC5.

      • I know what you mean. I don’t listen to new bands much at all now either. Actually, I love interesting soundscapes in some so-called, but badly named, modern classical music or some electronica, and I look for interesting, meaningful, and/or poetic lyrics, which are rare!

  2. I’ve tried to find the link to follow by email so I’ll get notified of new posts. It seems you haven’t added that option to your sidebar?
