Tipping Point

I stand here in the Goldilocks Zone,

where all conditions are perfect for human life to evolve.

Now balanced at the tipping point, I look up at the sky.

Light pollution obliterates the stars,

Gases released from ancient forests

melt the ice and scorch the earth.

Rockets exploding all around me,

Shake the ground beneath my feet.

War, famine, pestilence and death are everywhere,

And hungry for power and consumed by greed,

A fifth horseman, ‘Self-destruction’ powers yet another storm.

Oh yes, Shiva and Thor are busy tonight.

Yet through the haze, a solitary star appears,

And in spite of everything,

I still have hope in my fellow human beings.

And I want to enjoy this perfect moment,

Forever and ever

Or at least, until the next moment,

And the next,

And the next,

And the next.
